"She lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she did a lot of handiwork - such as rfurbishing furniture, painting, sewing, gardening, etc. She also taught some extension courses focused on handicrafts. Zane never had any children of her own, but was a great aunt to her brother's three children. One of her special passions became reconnecting and then helping her cousins and their families in Latvia. Once Latvia became free again in 1991, Zane travelled there frequently and provided a great deal of assistance to her extended family there. Unfortunately, Zane developed lymphoma in 1995, was in remission for 5 years, but passed away in June, 2001. I spent some time with her just before she died. At the end, she had come to terms with her life and continued to be concerned about others. I still think of her often. (Her Dad just passed away last year at 92. Her mom had predeceased her.)"
