50th Reunion Recap

Weekend Recap

On the weekend of September 16-18, 2016 classmates gathered from across the country (and as far away as England) to celebrate the time we spent at Monroe High School from 1960 to 1966.

On Friday night, 89+ people gathered at The Back Nine Grill 3500 East Ave. (formerly the Maplewood Inn) for hors d'oeuvres and conversation. (Dave Lippa generously paid for all drinks). We spent the evening guessing each other's names while reaching down to match names with faces and memories.

On Saturday evening 105 gathered for dinner at Glendoveers 2328 Browncroft Blvd., Penfield. We enjoyed more informal conversations, either with people we hadn't seen Friday night, or with people we continued conversations started on Friday. A DJ (generously paid for by Dave Lippa) provided background music from the 60s and an open bar prevented anyone from being thirsty. The food was delicious. The program by Jim Nicholson followed by Jon & Carol Newman was humorous and enjoyable. And the dance floor saw some activity toward the end of the night.

The Sunday picnic at Buckland Park Lodge 1341 Westfall Rd., Brighton rounded out the weekend for 74 people (that many people registered, but some opted to head home early so there were fewer). A food truck provided food and beverages so we all had more time to mingle and chat.

Too soon the weekend was over. Many people exchanged email addresses, phone numbers, and promises to be in touch more regularly. "When will the next reunion be?" was a common question.

If you were unable to attend, I urge you to get in touch with those who did and catch up on who is doing what. And make sure that you make plans to attend the next reunion - whenever it may be.

Below are links to:

1. The Keepsake Book that was handed out to all attendees. This book had lots of memorabilia from our time at Monroe, plus a large section on updated biographies. If you are interested in perusing it, a pdf version is available by clicking HERE.

2. A Calendar for the coming year with photos and graphics from our years at Monroe and related to world events. Significant dates from our years at Monore (e.g. Graduation, Proms, Blackout, Blizzard of '66, etc). If you would like a copy a pdf version is available HERE(note: this pdf version is in color and is what I had hoped to give attendees, but the color copier I planned to use was not printing good enough quality, so the copy shared at the reunion is a B&W version)

Thanks!! For All Your Help!

The 50th reunion of the MHS Class of 1966 was an unqualified success! the Reunion Committee worked very hard to ensure that our 50th was a reunion to be remembered. During the planning the committee decided to try to keep the events as affordable as possible. The challenge was balancing affordability with value. To help accomplish those goals, we asked classmates to underwrite some of the expenses - and people were extremely generous. The Reunion Committe, on behalf of the entire class, would like to thank the following people for their generous financial support:
